FERRARI 328 GTB 1986
The Ferrari 328 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1985 and produced until 1989. It succeeded the older 308 and was the ultimate development of it. Its appearance differed from the 308 with the adoption of wraparound bumpers painted in body colour. Mechanically, it had a 32-valve V8 engine developing 270bhp, which enabled it to reach 260kph (162mph). The ‘328’ name referred to 3.2 litres and 8 for V8. It was sold as a GTB coupé (B for Berlinetta) and a GTS targa (S for Spider). Of the 7412 cars which came off the production line, 1344 were built to this specification. This model symbolises the Ferrari brand and for the man in the street it was the Ferrari of the 1980s. This fame is due in part to its many appearances on screen. In 308 GTS guise, it is ever present in the series Magnum, driven by the famous detective played by Tom Selleck. It was the perfect example of the sports car of the period, stylish and elegant, with a tuneful engine and a likeable appearance.
The model presented here
The model we are offering comes from the private collection of an enthusiast for cars of this type. It was delivered new on 22 April 1986 by the Parisian dealer Charles Pozzi. Its second and last owner bought it in 1988. Since then, the car has been used regularly but sparingly and now has only 37,000km (23,000 miles) on the clock. It has always been maintained as stipulated by the manufacturer. A full maintenance service has just been carried out and the timing gear replaced. Overall, it runs and drives as it did originally. The optional air-conditioning provides some welcome added comfort. Finished in ‘Ferrari red’ with red carpets and a beige leather interior, it epitomizes the authenticity which a true enthusiast for the marque will look for. Its low mileage and exceptional original condition make it a rare find and mark it out as a genuine collector’s item. It will fall to its happy new owner to keep it like this and to continue to preserve it in this unique condition. It will be sold with a 12–month warranty.
